The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) is planning to implement a new system that requires mobile phones and SIM cards to be registered under the same individual. The joint spokesman of the authority, Achyutananda Mishra, recently announced this new measure, which will improve the security of users.
There has been concern lately about SIM cards not being registered under the correct name, and both the NTA and telecommunications companies have always encouraged users to register their SIM cards under their own names. However, with the introduction of the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS), this has become even more important. Mishra further emphasized the importance of linking the Know Your Customer (KYC) system for SIM cards with the MDMS for mobile phones to enhance security for users. This can only be achieved when both the mobile phone and SIM card are registered to the same person.
